mini vacations

John and I took two mini vacations the last few weekends.

Two weekends ago, we did another night up in Reno at the Atlantis. I had a doctor appointment, and we decided to stay up in a room to have some fun and privacy for a night. We went out to dinner with Drew, Christina, and Asher, and had a nice time visiting with them at their house. Late that night as we were settling down in our room, I took a gander at the room service menu, and told John that I had always wanted to order some food up to my room, and that it was on my bucket list. So, John told me to go ahead and do it! I think I looked through the menu at least a half an hour before I could decide what to order. I finally picked cheesecake and a chocolate milkshake, and John got a piece of German chocolate cake. And maybe because it was so expensive, or maybe because it was really late at night, but it was the absolute best cheesecake I've ever had in my life!

Our recent mini vacation was a trip to visit John's friend from high school and his family in Patterson, California. We had a fun time playing on their Xbox Kinect (what a workout!), playing with their kids, and we learned a card game called Munchkins. It was a lot of fun! It was kind of complicated, so I wouldn't trust myself to try to teach other people, but I really liked it!

One of my favorite parts of that trip was the drive there. We took Hwy 88 all the way up to Stockton, and it was gorgeous! Here are some pictures of the trip (sorry they were from my phone! I forgot my real camera.) It was amazing to leave the desert and be dropped into the middle of this. I love how green it is! It's such a beautiful change from seeing dormant, brown desert.

In the town, I saw the most beautiful trees I have ever seen! They had electric purple flowers, and I had never seen that color in a flower before. Unfortunately, this is the best picture I got, since I had to take it from a fast moving car, but my mom was till able to identify it.

They are Crepe Myrtle trees, and unfortunately, only grow in hot, dry places like California. I would love to have one someday. Here is a better picture from Google
