well wishes

Hooray!!! I wish you a Happy Weekending! :D :D :D

Quotes of the Day:

Me: "Do you think we can clap at the end of the song?"
Rachel: "I think Sister Hall would come over here and eat us if we did!"

and

Me: "You should marry one of John's roommates. They are fantastic boys."
Amanda: "Haha... well I'll work on that."
Me: "You should date Phil. I pick him for you. Oh wait. He has a llama shirt that he wears sometimes. Never mind. You can't have him."
Amanda: "Haha... why is that? Because I hate llamas? As long as it's not real and they're not pooping around me I don't care."

story time

I have a story for you.

Once upon a time there was a girl. She was in college, and just got a car. One afternoon she was driving up to her college campus. As she was driving along looking for a spot, she beheld a beautiful sight. A spot on the side of the road right next to where she needed to go! And it was just big enough for her car. So she pulled up next to the first car, and put her's in reverse to back into the spot.

She hit the curb. Drat. Pull forward to try again. Backing up... hit the curb again. Drat. Crooked. Pull forward... repeat three more times. No success.

Feeling frustrated and embarrassed, the girl looks up at the sidewalk and spies a boy. He was on the phone watching her with a slightly bemused expression on his face. Feeling helpless and desperate the girl quickly jumped out of the car, which was still half sticking out into the street, and frantically yelled, "DO YOU KNOW HOW TO PARALLEL PARK?!" The boy laughed and said, "I was going to ask if you wanted some help, but I didn't want to feel like I was infringing on your attempts."

So the girl got out of the car, and ran onto the sidewalk to watch the stranger easily slide her car into the spot without any problem. After many "thank you"s and much gratitude, the girl walked up to campus while the stranger in shining armor continued on his way in the opposite direction. And they both separately lived happily ever after.

The moral of the story is:
If you can't parallel park, it's okay as long as you're at BYU where there are many kind and helpful boys in the world.

Hmm. Maybe I should've gotten his number for my friends. He was really cute. I'm sure one of them would've really appreciated it. I could always stake him out next Wednesday at the same time and watch for him to come down the hill. But that is slightly stalker-ish. Single friends, let me know if you're interested.

amazing

I went on a date yesterday. And it was amazing :)

First, Rachel and I went to Men's Chorus yesterday to listen to their practice. They are FANTASTSIC! I swear, I fall in love with all of those boys more and more every time I listen to them sing. And I'm so glad that I have one of them ;) I am so excited for the concert this weekend! Rachel really enjoyed going, too. A few times we stopped remembering to breathe. Their last song, Pie Jesu, was gorgeous. And it really did make me cry... again. I better remember to take tissues next time. It was the absolute, pefect way to prepare for what we did next.

After listening to Men's Chorus, we headed over to Provo Temple to do baptisms. It's absolutely gorgeous inside, and the spirit is so strong. It is the best place to do thinking. It feels so pure inside, and like everything you worry about was left outside. I had an incredible experience, and got really important answers that I've been looking for. And I enjoyed just spending some time in there, and doing service.

When we left the temple, we went over to Zupas for dinner! It's so good! I got my usual turkey cranberry panini and Wisconsin Cauliflower soup. Rachel was right. There's just something about soup that warms the soul. Then Rachel and I spent some time just talking. I've missed her. I haven't seen her in a long time. We've both been really busy, and I loved taking some time with her.

It was such a perfect night. I am so glad that I have the opportunity to go do things like this. I feel very blessed to be so close to a temple, and that I can go inside. And I'm grateful for wonderful friends like Rachel to share all of this with. She is amazing.

vegas vacation

Viva Las Vegas!!!

Friday around one, Tyler, Tristan, Orly (the cat), John and I piled into my Impala to drive down to Vegas!!! It's Tristan's 21st birthday, so we all went down to celebrate. Her dad lives there, so we got to stay with him. The drive was actually fun. I read more of The Catcher in the Rye, listened to music, read for homework, and took a nice nap in the back seat. Then, five hours later, we arrived!

That night we just hung out at the house, ordered pizza, and watched The Last Samurai. It was really fun to just hang out and relax!

The next day, after we all got ready, we went to Hoover Dam! It was so cool! I had never been- well, that I can remember. I was barely a year old last time. We parked and walked around the top of the dam, making "dam" jokes the whole time. It was huge! I'm not afraid of heights, but it was still creepy and a bit eerie to look down a few hundred feet to the river below. It was also really neat to walk in between two state borders. I joked around that I was time traveling, since Arizona is an hour ahead of Nevada.

Kissing across borders and time zones :)

After we got back from the dam, we got ready for the evening. Tristan's dad took us all out to dinner to a fabulous Italian restaurant in one of the casinos. It was delicious! Then the kids all went to the mall so Tristan could buy some Converse. I have converted her to the ways of Converse. Yesss!

Then we headed down to the strip! It was about 10 when we got there. We started out parked at the Mirage, and walked around the outside and inside of the Venetian, then headed over to Treasure Island. After that we just walked down the sidewalk, occasionally stopping to take pictures in front of the casinos. They are beautiful. The buildings are amazing, and there are gorgeous fountains and statues. I think it's funny that most people go to Vegas for the sin, and I go to look at its architecture.

Inside the Venetian

The Pirate Ship at Treasure Island

A fountain by Harrah's

There was a guy dressed up like a robot. He was awesome! He had a voice box that made him sound like a robot, and he even moved like one. He was really funny, too.

After more stops by the Paris (there is a real, big Eiffel Tower!!!), and the M&M store, we ended our journey at the MGM Grand. It's definitely not like it used to be. When I was a kid, there was a big Yellow Brick Road, and other Wizard of Oz scenes. It was very family friendly. Now there isn't anything but more boring, new slot machines.

Tristan just had to lose some money in honor of her golden birthday, so John and I went over to Starbucks to share a vanilla bean frappuccino while she played Craps. It was very delicious! Who would have known that there are a lot of really good non-coffee drinks at Starbucks? Then we took the monorail back to the Mirage to end our journey.

Overall, it was a fantastic trip. Vegas definitely isn't as fun when you're Mormon, but it's still a beautiful city. After biscuits and gravy, we headed back down to Provo to start another week!

Quotes of the Day:

John: "If you eat that dog biscuit I'll never kiss you again!"

and

Tristan: "If I was a horse, I'd be running away from the battle."
John: "No way. Look, that horse doesn't have a rider and it's still going. It knows what's up."

and

Tristan: "That guy is bleeding all over. If I was a horse, I'd want to remain white."
Tyler: "Why do you have to make this about race?"

and

Tristan: "How is Tom Cruise still alive? He got shot."
Tyler: "That's why he's limping."
Tristan: "He got shot twelve times. When you get shot twelve times, you don't limp. You die."
Scott: "But he's a Scientologist."
John: "Yeah. They can heal themselves like this- *waves arms around*"

and

Tristan: "If you kill me, you won't be getting dinner tomorrow night."
John: "Oh, we'll still get dinner. Your dad just won't be paying."
Tyler: "If you're not there, we'll have money for dessert."

and

All of our dam jokes:
"Just follow the dam sign."
"Dam straight!"
"They're building a dam bridge so you don't have to drive on the dam road."
"Man, the dam tours are way expensive."
"That dam bathroom is very awkward."
"I got a picture with a dam cop!"
"These dam tourists are really getting in my way."
"We don't want a dam death. Get out of the dam road."
You get the picture :)

and

Me: "We stood on Mercury, kissed on the moon, and danced through the galaxy!"

and

Drunk girl: "Is that a real man?"
John in mocking girly voice: "Is that a real man? I don't know. I am so totally wasted."

and

Me: "Thank you for putting up with me when I was fake drunk."

and

Me: "Tell me a secret!"
John: "Okay... I broke my toe once."
Me: "That is not a secret. That is a random fact that you had not yet disclosed to me."

and

Me: "What's the word for people from Provo? Provoites, Provoans...?"
Tristan: "Weirdos. That's what they are."

and

Guy at lunch table: "I had a friend who read Twilight, and he also watched Brokeback Mountain, and he said that Twilight was more gay."

is it summer yet?

Top 5 classes I have enjoyed at BYU:

5. Engl 150: Writing and Rhetoric- My teacher was bomb. She was so fun and I learned a lot of really good writing strategies.

4. Rel A 122: Book of Mormon- I grew so much spiritually from this class. It's amazing.

3. MFHD 210: Child Development- This helped me decide I want to work with kids. And I learned fantastic material to use in my future family.

2. Dance 180, 280, 184, 185, 284: Social and Ballroom Dance- It's what I was born to do. Basically.

1. SFL 160: Intro to Family Processes- This, more than any other of my classes combined, helped prepare me for my future family, and with my current life. I felt like the things I learned were actually applicable to my life, rather than just something I had to learn for the grade. And I adore my professor, Brother Holman. He was so sweet and helped me in my personal life. He really cares about his students.

Top 5 classes I despise at BYU:

5. Psych 220: Human Life Span Development- The material was fascinating. The teacher was an idiot. I taught myself from the book all semester.

4. Chem 285: Bioorganic Chemistry- Organic = fabulous. Biochemistry = torture.

3. Geog 120: Geography and World Affairs- Icky material, icky teacher.

2. Stats 221: Principles of Statistics- Statistics tries too hard to not be math.

1. A HTG 100: American Heritage- Needs to DIE!!!

I love school. I really do. I'm not being sarcastic. Student life is great.

Quotes of the Day:

Me: "I refuse to date a Jedi Master."

and

Prof. Geography Man: "Are you all doing well?"
Me: "In this class or in general? Because the two answers are completely different."

and

Amanda: "Let's face it. That girl is trying to turn 'irridentism' into a different word. She said, 'irridontist.' It's like a dentist."

and

Geography terms: "Isoline. Isotherm. Isohyet. Iso..."
Amanda: "Isohorny. Isofreaky. You can take that however you want."

and

Me: "This has nothing to do with Russia."
Amanda: "Your mom has nothing to do with Russia."

neglectful

By many requests, I am blogging. Hurrah!

Life has been super crazy. I can't even believe it's mine. Honestly, two months ago I would have had no idea I'd be in this spot right now. I worked hard, and this is my reward.

Obviously as you all know I have a boy in my life. And he's pretty much the greatest ever. I'm crazy about him. We've been spending a lot of time together, which has been fantastic. I've gotten to know him really fast, and miraculously, after spending almost all of my free time with him, I haven't gotten sick of him at all. I'm actually really sad to say goodbye in the evenings. We've been friends for a while, and started hanging out more before Christmas break. We talked every day during break, and when we got back, decided to start dating. And I haven't been happier!

I have some new friends as well. All of John's roommates. They are the funnest guys ever! They all went to the same mission in Milwaukee. Since it was a Spanish speaking mission, they all are fluent in the language. It's so fun going over to their apartment. Both English and Spanish are thrown around constantly. At this rate, I'll be semi-fluent in Spanish in no time. And they are super musical. I watched them play this music improv game the other night. (I suck at improv and thinking quickly on my feet, so I just watched). One of the roommates, Nate, was at the piano playing some chords. Then, going around in a circle, each person would sing one line to a song. Then the next person has to rhyme with the previous line. If you can't make it rhyme, or can't get the line out in time, you're out of the game. It was so fun to watch! Those boys are super creative.

My dad came up last week to bring me my car. We had so much fun together! We went shopping a bit, walked through the mall, and got lunch together. Then, that night, Tyler, Tristan, and John joined us for dinner at Cafe Rio. It was delicious!

My classes are going well. I love my dance class. We started with the tango. It's so much fun! I can't quite get the steps down completely yet, but it's still just the first two weeks. I'm already psyched for Dancesport. But... I was ready for winter Dancesport the day fall Dancesport was over. I have a countdown on my computer, and it's only 53 days!

One day last week John and I made pancakes. And he made smily face ones :) He is such a good cook.

Amanda and I went on a secret mission on Saturday. Well, here's how the day started. John came over and we made breakfast. Then he had to leave for an all day choir practice. Wistie had sent me a text asking me if I could take her over to 7-11 to get change for the laundry machine. OH yeah, I have a car now! It's beautiful. But anyway... So I picked her up, and while we were at 7-11 I decided that I wanted donuts. NOW. So we started on our way to Krispy Kreme. As we were passing Wyview, we pulled in and decided to kidnap Amanda. So we raided her apartment, and made her come along with us. Four dozen donuts later, (don't worry. I didn't eat all of mine. I used most of them to feed boys), we started back to Provo. I dropped Wistie off at home, and took Amanda grocery shopping.

Then I had a stroke. Of GENIUS! Here was my thought process:
I should do something clever for John soon. I haven't really done anything yet. What can I do? Hmm... maybe write him a poem. No. Bigger. (The next few ideas have been edited out of this blog for secrecy purposes. They may be used in the future) Well, look at current circumstances. He's out of town today. Perfect. He's not getting back until 6. I have about three hours. They carpooled up to the retreat. His car is unattended on campus! Bingo! Time to lovingly trash it!

So I got lots of brightly colored paper, markers, streamers, and some candy in order to attack his car. Amanda and I went back to her apartment and cut out hearts, stars, polka dots, drew pictures, I wrote some song lyrics, and a poem. Then the hunt began. I knew Men's Chorus met somewhere on campus to carpool . I just had no idea where. So Amanda and I drove through most of the parking lots on campus looking for his car. We asked the "Nissan gods" to lead us to it, and did our best Hiro impression by yelling for the Versa. We were just basically being dorks. Then, after searching for over 30 minutes, I gave up and decided to ask. Here was the conversation:

Me: When are you getting back again?
John: I'll be back at 6:30ish
Me: Did you drive up there? Was it long?
John: We get done here at 6 and it takes like 30 mins. to get back
Me: Did you have to drive?
John: Yeah
Me: That stinks. Too bad you couldn't just bum a ride off someone else.
John: It was fine... What were you going to do to my car?
Me: Nothing. Why are you so paranoid? Just making conversation.
John: Ok. If you say so.

Busted! And even worse, no car! So we went for plan B. Traditional style. We just attacked his front door instead. And it probably worked out better that way. And it ended up being really cute and colorful.

Last night we shared dinner with some of John's friends, Sean and Jennie. They are so cute! They recently got engaged. I really like hanging out with them. We made chicken alfredo and spinach salad. Then they brought over veggies and garlic toast. It was a fun meal.

Well, today is a holiday! And it is glorious. I'm planning on spending the whole day just chillin' at home, reading books. I restarted The Catcher in the Rye the other day, and I want to finish that. Then John and I are going to read 1984 together. So I'll start that one today! One of my favorite things to do with him is read. So I'm excited for today!

Well, I hope that was sufficient for y'all. I'll try to keep up more in the future so I don't have to do a huge post. Ciao!

the forgotten

I had forgotten a quote by Amanda and I. She reminded me of it, so I decided to dedicate a whole entry to it. Here's for you, Amanda.

Me: "I'm going to Kneader's for French toast."
Amanda: "Hooter's has French toast???"
Me: "What? No, Kneaders! Not Hooters! Do they even have a Hooters in Utah?"

and all that gushy stuff

I have changed a lot recently. For the better.

I owe that change to many people. And to myself. I like who I am now, and who I've become. I'm happier, more in tune with life, and closer to God.

It's almost weird to think that I'm more grown up. I've realized this the last week or two. I have new priorities, new desires, new goals, new motivation. I am a new person, and better prepared for future challenges and responsibilities.

I've been more grateful. I spend more time thanking the Lord for my blessings, and for being observant at what I've been given. I pause and look at my life to see how amazing it is, and how fortunate I am for so many things.

And because of that, I'm done being selfish. The best way to be happy is to help others. I want to use what I've been given to make others as happy as I am. I've been trying harder to look passed myself and focus on other people. And it works. Put others first and you will be blessed.

I love the Lord. I love how things just work out. I love doing something I'm prompted to do without knowing why, and then looking back and seeing what came from it. I can't wait to keep improving myself, and to keep working harder. If I was blessed with all I have by doing a few simple things, and making small changes in my life, how much more can I receive? I can't wait to keep going down this path to see what other things are in store for me. And I can't wait to bring that joy to other people around me. I have been feeling the spirit and God's love a lot more lately. I don't know how I ever lived without it this strongly all the time. I never want it to go away.

Thank you, friends. Thank you Amber, and John, and Amanda, and Jason. Thank you, Tyler, Tristan, Mom, Dad, Drew, Christina. And Thea, and Jacob. Thank you, Rachel, and Wistie. I love you all more than I can say. And I hope that I can repay you sometime. You all mean the absolute world to me. I love you.

And it's weird to be grateful for hardships and mistakes in life. But I truly am. We all go through hard times, and we must handle them and learn from them. While I made some big mistakes, I wouldn't trade it for anything. And I'm still almost happy it all happened. If I could go back I would've made different decisions. But since I can't, I'm just going to take it all in stride and learn from it. It's helped me grow more than anything has. I feel more prepared for the world, and more prepared to teach, and eventually raise a righteous family. I've been there. I can empathize with people. And really, honestly help them.

And I owe it all to my Lord and savior.

And now, I owe some apologies. I have been a bit selfish...

Amber, I'm sorry for making you feel abandoned. I do miss you. Don't you doubt that. You are my BFFFE and no one can replace you. I just have been out enjoying my newest blessing every waking moment. I hope you can understand that. It's time that I come back down to the ground and stop ignoring my friends. I can't wait for you to come over tomorrow! We will have a blast. And I want to hear what you've been up to since I've been gone.

Amanda, sorry I was stolen from you. But I love you SOOO much for introducing me to John. You are a true friend, and I appreciate you so much.

Tristan, sorry about the boxes in the corner. And for taking up the whole cupboard. I will get that cleaned up soon.

John, sorry for stealing your hat. And for eating all of your Nutella. It is absolutely delicious. Thank you for leaving it at my house.

simply

I have never been happier! Period.
